NOTICE OF MEETINGS (CHURCH LIST) - FAQs

1. Why the change back to 'Notice of Meetings' (NoM)?

AMT is independent of any organisation that functions to look after Australian Christian Brethren assemblies at the state or national level. AMT is primarily a missions service organisation. However, the NoM has been in production for decades, as an additional service to AMT-affiliated assemblies, although this was not part of its original mandate. Our church list is separate from any other similar contact list; we derive the information from our own research and resources. We ask for and receive permission to include specific details in the printed version of the NoM, as well as on this website.

2. Why do some entries have a suburb preceding the church name?

The entries are mostly listed alphabetically according to suburbs within alphabetically listed states. The exceptions are church names that are cross-referenced to suburbs in both versions of the church list (e.g. 'Faith CC - see Blacktown'; 'President Ave CC - see Kirrawee').
The entries with suburbs preceding the church names are so listed because either (a) the name of the church does not contain the suburb name (e.g. Sanctuary CC is in Baulkham Hills; Village Ave CC is in Coopers Plains), or (b) the suburb in the name of the church is in a suburb adjacent to where it actually is located (e.g. Wynnum GC is actually in Manly West; Grovely GC is in Mitchelton).

3. People won't know where our small suburb is - can't we be listed under the main regional town?

Unfortunately, when doing web searches (yes, the church list takes this into account), e.g. via street-directory.com.au, maps.google.com.au or whereis.com, the suburb has to be precise. For example, with Anne St GC in Gulliver, 'Anne St Townsville' is not found, whereas 'Anne St Gulliver' is; with Acton Chapel, 'Bennett St Burnie' is not found, whereas 'Bennett St Acton' is; with South Cairns CC in Mount Sheridan, 'Hardy Rd South Cairns' is not found, whereas 'Hardy Rd Mount Sheridan' is; with Harristown CA, 'Violet St Toowoomba' is not found whereas 'Violet St Harristown' is. As a compromise, in certain entries the main regional town is [1] cross-referenced and [2] listed in brackets after the suburb, eg Adamstown CC (Newcastle), Harristown CA (Toowoomba).
However, we do what we can to accommodate. So for those who specifically request it, we have compromised thus: (eg) Townsville (Gulliver) - Anne St G C

4. I included mid-week meetings on the info update form - why aren't those details included on the printed list?

Simply because of space. As stated at the top of the printed list, we have only included Sunday meetings. If we include all details for one church, we would have to do it for all - and we do, just on the web, not in print.

5. Why do some web listings only have the church's name and address, with or without an asterisk before the entry?

Some churches only want limited information on the web. The asterisk denotes those churches which have not replied to AMT's request for updated information in the last financial year. For those who did not reply in the 2005-6 year and have not subsequently updated their details (even if it's just to say "no change"), they will continue to be listed as '*[church name][address]' only. Churches who did not reply in 2006-7, did not provide updates during the year but were already included on the website will continue to be listed as is, but with * before their names.

6. I know of this Brethren church which is not on either of your lists - why is that?

The church is either not affiliated with AMT; is affiliated but has chosen not to be on the list, for whatever reason; has closed down; or AMT is unaware of it. If the latter is the case, please provide us with it's contact details, or feel free to provide AMT's contact details to this particular church if it wishes to be on the church list.

7. With time entries there are no AMs/PMs - why is that?

They were originally excluded due to space once again.
Any time that is 9.00 or later is AM; any time that is 7.30 or earlier is PM. If there is ever a 6.00am or 10.00pm prayer meeting that is to be listed, it will have 'am' or 'pm' respectively.

8. Since AMT produces the Notice of Meetings on the web, does it also advertise for Brethren organisations and/or events on its website?

AMT is first and foremost a missions service organisation. Years ago AMT started producing the Notice of Meetings (now the LACBC) to aid the travelling Christian public, but this was - and still is - not a service that is part of AMT's original mandate. There is no intention for AMT to advertise for organisations and/or events on the website; this is already done in Serving Together magazine. However, AMT will list events (e.g. missions conferences) in the calendar.
